American Society of Landscape Architects Announces 2025 Honors Recipients

Today the American Society of Landscape Architects (˿Ƶ) announced its 2025 Honors Recipients. The honorees are selected by ˿Ƶ’s board of trustees and represent the most noteworthy professionals nationwide.

“This class of honorees is the best of the best in landscape architecture. They have incredible vision, are leaders among their peers, and set a high bar for excellence,” said Kona Gray, F˿Ƶ, PLA, President of ˿Ƶ.

2025 ˿Ƶ Honors Recipients:

  • The ˿Ƶ Medal: Michael Van Valkenburgh, F˿Ƶ, PLA Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Inc.
  • The ˿Ƶ Design Medal: Jeffrey Carbo, F˿Ƶ, PLA JCLA Studio
  • The Community Service Award–Organizational: Coastal Dynamics Design Lab at NC State University
  • The Community Service Award –Individual: Matthew Potteiger, ˿Ƶ SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry
  • The Jot D. Carpenter Teaching Medal: Charlene LeBleu, F˿Ƶ, Auburn University
  • The LaGasse Medal — Professional: Mark Hough, F˿Ƶ, PLA Duke University
  • The LaGasse Medal — Nonprofessional: Charles F. "Chuck" Sams III, Northwest Power and Conservation Council
  • The Landscape Architecture Firm Award: SCAPE
  • The ˿Ƶ Medal of Excellence: Frederick Steiner, F˿Ƶ, University of Pennsylvania
  • The Olmsted Medal: Chicago Region Trees Initiative, The Morton Arboretum
  • The ˿Ƶ Emerging Professional Medal: Maria Fernanda "MaFe" Gonzalez, Associate ˿Ƶ, BASE Landscape Architecture
  • Honorary ˿Ƶ Members:

The six honorary members inducted by ˿Ƶ are non-landscape architecture professionals recognized for notable service to the profession. Since its inception in 1899, ˿Ƶ has inducted only 267 honorary members.

The Outstanding Service Award was launched in 2013 and given annually to recognize volunteers who make notable contributions to or on behalf of the Society at the national level.
