Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵPublic Health Students Conduct Hygiene Awareness Campaign for IDPs in Garasbaaleey District

December 17, 2025

Students from the Public Health Department at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ, have successfully conducted a community health awareness campaign focusing on personal hygiene and hygiene-related diseases for internally displaced persons (IDPs living in camps in Garasbaaleey District.

The awareness initiative aimed to educate camp residents on the importance of maintaining proper personal hygiene as a key preventive measure against common communicable diseases that often arise due to poor sanitation and limited access to clean water. During the sessions, students provided practical guidance on handwashing, personal cleanliness, waste management, and disease prevention methods suitable for challenging living conditions.

In addition to health education, the Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵPublic Health students distributed essential hygiene kits to the IDP families. The distributed materials included basic sanitation supplies designed to support healthier daily practices and reduce the risk of disease outbreaks within the camps.

The activity reflects UNISO’s strong commitment to community engagement, service learning, and public health promotion. Through such initiatives, students are able to apply classroom knowledge to real-world settings while making a meaningful impact on vulnerable communities.

This outreach program also highlights the vital role of future public health professionals in strengthening community health awareness, preventing disease, and supporting national efforts toward improved public health and social well-being.
